Opossum Shrimp

OPOSSUM SHRIMP

Krog: Danish Seatrout # 6-10 eller lignende

Bindetråd: 6/0 Std. tråd eller Big Fly Thread i farven Fluo. Chartreuse

Belastning: Efter eget ønske.

Munddele: Lille bundt hår fra Australsk Opossum

Antenner: 2 lange og 2 lidt kortere kunstfibre a’la Rizz fibre

Øjne: Rejeøjne i ønsket farve

BINDE STEPS

STEP 6.

Dæk hele kroppen med bindetråden. Fordel en dråbe sekundlim over bindetråden. Helst af gel typen.

BINDE STEPS

STEP 7.

Kern Leo Lund – Denmark

Kern Leo Lund is one of the most talented seatrout fly tiers in Denmark with a specialty in Shrimp patterns. His Leo’s Perfect Shrimp is one of his great flies that not only look good, but also works really well.

Kern lives close to some very nice seatrout hot spots, so he has great access to test his designs, and he does so several times a week.

Kern catches a lot of fish every year and he has landed several above the magic 5 kg with an impressive fish above 7 kg from Bornholm as the biggest.

Kern loves saltwater and he has fished many countries on both the flats and off shore. His trips have brought him to countries like Cuba, Mexico, USA and others in search for Bonefish, Tarpon, Tuna, Sailfish, Dorado etc.

But it is the seatrout that is his biggest passion.

My Favorit Gear

Coastal Seatrout

Rod:

Spook Seatrout 9’ # 6 and Spook Seatrout 9’ # 7. This rod is extremely light, but still have a lot of power for long cast. It is perfect for my fishing. Great balance, action and finish. My favorite seatrout rod of all times!

Reel:

NEWTON 6/8 – in blue, so it matches the Spook Seatrout rods. Superb 100 % sealed brake. Awesome design, where it is clear, that it is designed for use in saltwater. And the weight is also low, so it fits the very light Spook Seatrout rods. A perfect match.

Line:

Pro series shooting head kit. These lines give me an edge no matter where I fish, and in what weather. If I should choose one of them only, it would be the Delayed Turn Over (DTO) model. Once I got used to the DTO head (it takes longer time to get straightened in the back cast than other lines), it simply produced the best casting I have ever done with a shooting head. But all 4 heads has their advantage, and I wouldn’t be without any of them!

My Favorite Flies:

Leo’s Perfect Shrimp, See Thru Baitfish

Best catches

Saltwater

Seatrout: 7,2 kg (From Denmark)
Bonefish: 14 lbs (From Cuba)

Freshwater

Pike: 12,5 kg – only a few 100 grams from the existing line class world record (From Denmark)

Henk Huising – Netherlands

Henk Huising comes from the Netherlands,  and has since 2019 been an A.Jensen PRO team member.

Henk started with fly fishing and tying for more 20 years ago. During these years he found that fly fishing with a dry fly in a small brook for Trout and Grayling in Germany, Luxemburg and France became his favourite type of fishing.

The last years he has often fished in Luxemburg, Germany and France for trout and found that the Delicacy lines are great for dry fly fishery.

About 10 years ago he also found his way to the Danish coastline in hunt for Seatrout. After a couple of trips to Funen and Als, he found a way to success, and is now “hooked” on this kind of fishing, where just beeing on the coastline with good friends is a big part of it.

Henk is a very skilful flytier and you might see that he has a slight preference for tying dry flies. But he does other types of flies too, and you see that he will share his tying instructions under the “Video” section here on our website

Holland has a lot of possibilities for fishing.

Henk fish in both fresh and salt water, and he has, during his “flyfishing life”, caught many different species of fish.

In fact he has caught almost all Dutch species which you can catch with a fly. But there are of course still some on his bucket list…..

My Favorit Gear

Thomas Bachmann – Denmark

Thomas was introduced to flyfishing in 1998, by a dear friend of his, and it quickly became his big passion, where hours were spent sharpening his casting and fishing techniques along his home waters, which is the coast of the Northwest of Sealand.

Tying his own flies quickly became an integrated part of the hobby.

You can find Thomas out fishing whenever his calendar allows it – of course especially in his home waters. The many hours of fishing have given him a superb insight in Seatrout fishing year around, and in all kind of weather.

Thomas loves passing on his love for the sport to the younger generation, or in fact anyone who wants to explore the world of flyfishing. As Thomas says: “Everyone can fish with a fly, and everyone can learn something from others. Keep an open mind and you will see that fly fishing will become a superb experience for you”.

In recent years Thomas have become fascinated by fishing trout and grayling in the streams of Jylland in Denmark. Today he is a member of Grindsted Fiskeforening, which allows him to fish some great rivers (streams), where his dry flies presented to the inhabitants of the “dark pools”.

In general Thomas is so fascinated by the world of flyfishing because it keeps him curious, due to the many many facets it has. Even though many people believe they know what is right and wrong, sometimes ”wrong” is the correct approach, it just shows “the fish hasn’t read the book” so as a fly fisher you can keep on learning year after year, even outing after outing.

My Favorit Gear

Coastal Seatrout

Rod:

Spook Seatrout 9’ # 7. I really have to acknowledge A.Jensen for the design of this rocket of a fly rod. I have been casting in all directions forward and backward, in a wide range of wind speeds. It has so much power, that it is easy to cast + 25 meter (app + 80 feet) every time, and that is without any problems at all!!!

Neville William Broad – England

Neville Broad from England is a passionate fly fisherman particularly specialising in saltwater fly fishing.

He is 54 years young and have a PhD in pharmaceutical sciences, and has been a passionate fly fisherman for the past 25 years.

Neville started fishing at the age of 7 years, and was a junior competitor on the South East UK saltwater bait fishing match scene. He says: “I always remember winning a Christmas open completion at 10 years of age beating adults anglers to a significant first place, which the judges in their wisdom gave me alcoholic prizes and not the more significant cash winnings.”

Where Neville lives in the South of England there are superb opportunities for bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) on the fly in saltwater, which is arguably his favourite species to fish for. He has had numerous bass on the fly, whether it’s using sinking lines from boats or topwater methods in shallow harbours.

He also love sight fishing for mullet – This can be quite a challenge but something he has conquered for both thin and thick lipped species in estuaries as well as the open coasts of England and Ireland.

Neville regard learning new techniques, innovative ways of thinking and meeting passionate anglers as very important.

He has been blessed to have fly fished many parts of the globe including Canada (largemouth and smallmouth bass), Ireland (European bass, mullet, pollock, wrasse), Mexico (Bonefish and Tarpon), Norway (Coalfish, Cod, Halibut and Pollock), and the USA (largemouth bass, bluefish, bonita, false albacore and striped bass).  Neville is also a contributing writer for Sea Angler magazine.

Some of Nevilles proudest fly fishing achievements have been winning the UK Saltwater Fly Fishing Festivals of 2016 and 2017, as well as runner up in the 2021 Orvis UK Saltwater Fly Fishing Festival – as Neville says: “I guess I do have a competitive side!”

In September 2021 he caught a 164.5cm halibut in shallow Norwegian saltwater on a pink streamer pattern using a 12wt fly rod – as you can imagine it still feels like a dream (come true) for him….

The photo of that great catch is taken  by Stina Didriksen. In the photo you see Neville together with his Guide; Jonny Stephenson from “Wild Pursuit Guiding”. (If you missed the fish you need glasses…..)

Neville personally believe the future significant advancement in fly fishing will be radical fly line development, where he envisage thinner lines with enormous casting distance potential but not spooking fish upon landing and minimising glare…….just like we design most of the flylines at A.Jensen.

My Favorit Gear

Light Coastal – Mullet, Light Bass, Bonefish

Rod:

Diablo in 9′ #

I
love the lightness of this rod, though it is fast, it does have subtlety to
enable delicate placement of flies such as shrimps so as not to disturb weary
mullet.  it has a beautiful finish and benefits from oversized, quality
guides.

Reel:

The NEWTON reel.

The perfect match to the Diablorod.

My Favourite flies:

Apps Bloodworm, Spectra Shrimp, Maggot fly, Crazy Charlie, small Clouser minnow

SALTWATER BASS AND POLLOCK

Rod:

Viper 8′ # 8 and 8′ # 9

These allow me to cast big and bulky flies as easy as possible, and to have a lot of power in the bottom of the rod to battle the big ones. At the same time the rod should be as light as possible, as tossing big flies all day can be hard work.

I mainly use the 9 wt unless the conditions are harsher (eg more wind).

I love the fact that A Jensen has included 2 sections of rubber cork in the handle at points where you put most pressure while casting. This is to support the grip and you hand the best possible way.

Phantom 8′ # 9

This will for sure be my new “Go to” rod. Incredible light and powerful at the same time. Design and fittings are tailormade for this kind of fishing.

Caspar Andersen – Denmark

Caspar Andersen is a danish fly fisher in his mid 30’s, with a strong passion for especially seatrout fishing and tying flies for the Seatrout.

Caspar  has been fishing since the age of 10. in the beginning it was pike, perch and other freshwater fish that had my focus.

In 2009 Caspar was introduced to seatrout fishing along the coast by his father, which changed everything for his fishing. It turned from a hobby to a real passion. Since then 90% of his fishing has been devoted to Seatrouts. He do though also enjoy some proper streetfishing casting a fly for perch in lakes near his home.

In 2010 he picked up fly fishing and the passion developed further to becoming more like a religion – as he says: “well I dont mind spinfishing, i just rather fish with a fly…Nothing in fishing can be compered to the first feeling you get when the line suddenly  gets tightent 🙂 “

Caspar also loves tying flies and making videos about his tying and fishing, which can be enjoyed by everyone in his Youtube Channel and Facebook page under the name FatFlyFishing – so don’t forget to subscribe. It is not only the place for learning about fishing technique, tying and fishing spots, it is also super cosy – or what we danish call “Hyggeligt”

Caspar enjoys fishing competitions and participate in several every year.

Caspars lives in mid Jylland and his homewaters is the eastern part of Jylland, but the coast of Fyn is also visited quite often.

Troels Frøhlke Nielsen – Denmark

Troels Frøhlke Nielsen is a danish fly fisher that loves hunting for trout, mainly seatrout, but rainbow and brown trout is also on the menu every year.

Troels has been a member of the A.Jensen family since early 2020, but has known Henrik and the Danish team members since 2015.

Troels has a unique and super sympatric approach to flyfishing. Few I so interested in listening to other flyfishers as Troels, and being able to extract the knowledge he can use for his fishing. Do not be mistaken, Troels is a very talented flyfisher, but he is one of the rare humble guys that that really enjoy fishing and all the aspects of it – including flytying. In his own words – we can all learn, even the guys that think they know it all…..!!!

Troels has been fishing as far back as he can remember, probably since the age of 5 or so, but started fly fishing when he was 13.

Troels is primarily targetting seatrout and trout in streams and lakes, but sometimes he head out for pike fishing as well.

Flemming Nielsen – Denmark

Flemming Nielsen comes from the North Eastern part of Denmark, only a “double haul” from Øresund, the sound between Denmark and Sweden.

Flemming is a very knowledged fly fisherman, that loves trout, beeing the silvery kind in the sea or the red dottet ones in the rivers. You will find Flemming on the Danish coastline many many days every year. Multiply that with the years he has been flyfishing (started at age 11), and you get an idea why he has gained this vast knowledge. On top of that Flemming is always ready to learn new stuff from others with different or new ways of targetting trout.

Add to that his skills with a flyrod……he is simply a very skilful caster.

In the summertime you will find Flemming chasing rising trout and grayling in all of Scandinavia, Croatia, Slovenia and the Chalkstreams of Sourthern UK.

Besides bein a great fisherman, he is also very talented behind the tying vise. Especially the dries are small master pieces….and trout and grayling seems to agree….

My Favorit Gear

Coastal Seatrout

Henrik Agerskov Jensen – Denmark

Henrik Agerskov Jensen is the founder and CEO of A.Jensen. Henrik has a pHd in Biology, but his passion for fly fishing and fly tying directed him into this business. Henrik has tied flies professionally, many years ago…., now he rather spends time tying for his own boxes or playing with the materials trying to invent new techniques and patterns.

Henrik started Fly Fishing at age 7. He has written more than 500 articles about fly fishing and fly tying in national and international magazines, and he has appeared in films and TV programs.

Henrik was the first seatrout fly designer that combined the deeper biology knowledge of seatrout bait with fly tying, which resulted in a long series of articles in the 1980’s and 1990’s. In this series of articles he also presented a bunch of seatrout flies that is now classics, such as Aura Rejen, Honey Shrimp and Goby.

Henrik loves saltwater and has fished all over the world for species like the “classic” flats inhabitants: Tarpon, Bonefish, Permit but also the offshore species like Dorado, sailfish and especially the Tuna family fascinates him – they are simply some of the best creatures to test new saltwater gear on, it surely will be tested to the limit.

Henrik is though equally fascinated in classic trout fishing, especially sight fishing with nymphs, so he visits a Chalkstream as often as possible – most often to the well-known streams Test, Itchen and Avon of Hampshire in England but also the streams of the Balkan countries.

But Henrik is first and foremost a seatrout fisherman and fly tier, and has landed several silver bombs above the magic 5 kg, with 4 whoppers above 8 kg – all in saltwater.

My Favorit Gear

Coastal Seatrout

Rod:

Spook Seatrout in 8’ and 9′ # 6 and 7

I use mostly a 8’ # 7. The Spook Seatrout is simply the best rod we have ever made for seatrout fishing. Super light, with a crisp action and simply a wonderful and delicate rod to cast and play a fish on.

Reel:

DaVinci.

I still use the very first model I got of the daVinci. It is a test model from the development of this reel, so it dates from before the reel was released back in 2012. It is the final test version and identical to the ones on the market. I it still looking as if it was new…. a true warrior for the salty environment.

Lately I have been using the NEWTON reel. It is light and strong and I find them a perfect match to the Spook Seatrout rods.

Line:

The Pro Series Shooting heads.

This kit covers all situations I encounter along the coast, and the special tapers really makes a difference…….My favorite model is the Delayed TO. This head is simply the best casting shooting head I have ever tried.

My Favorite Flies:

2 of my seatrout above 8 kg was taken on a Honey Shrimp, so this fly is naturally my favorite of all time.

Tropical Saltwater

Rod:

Spook Trophy.

I use this rod on the flats and offshore. I had the full range with me on a trip to Florida, where we fished on the flats and offshore, so all rods was in use. When I went home I did so without the rods – the guides kept them all….I guess that says it all!!

Reel:

DaVinci.

I have used this reel for so many species and years now, and it has never failed. This is simply first choice for this kind of fishing.

Line:

The Quick Shoot Tropical.

The line is made for the quick deliveries we need when fishing especially on the flats….they cast very well and perform superbly with the Spook Trophy rod.

Brown Trout

Rod:

Avon.

My absolute favorite of all time is the Avon 8’ # 3. Super light, sensitive and a joy to use.

Reel:

PENA

Light and a beautiful combi with the Avon. The brake is super smooth and works perfect when fishing the ultra thin leaders.

Line:

Delicacy.

This is a super line, that makes precise and delicate presentation of the fly easy.

Nathalie Segel – Sweden

Nathalie Segel is a young woman from Sweden, that lives on the Island Värmdö in the Stockholm archipelago together with her boyfriend Christian (also a pro team member).

Nathalie has been an outdoor girl all her life, where a lot of time was spent doing “nature stuff”, like finding berries, hiking in the woods and mountains and fishing with her father.

But when she met Christian she were pulled into the world of flyfishing. She immediately started tying pike flies, which became a way of relaxing in the evening….

Christian took her out fishing from a float tube. It was not easy in the beginning with a lot of missed takes. But when she landed her first pike on the fly – a really nice fish weighing 6,3 kg – she knew, that she had got the “fly bug”, and since then she has never looked back.

Today Nathalie is a skillful pike flyfisher, and she makes some really, really, really nice pike flies!!

Lately she has started an interest in fishing for game species, but Nathalie is first and foremost a Pike fly fisher.

My Favorit Gear
